Madeline McGill is a builder, writer, and founder of Western Desk.

Hailing from Colorado, Madeline began working in campaigns in 2014. After graduating from Boston University with a B.A. in Political Science, she went on to work for campaigns, non-profits, and labor unions across New England. Madeline worked with candidates ranging from City Council to Congress and served as a statewide coordinator for the Massachusetts campaigns for a $15 Minimum Wage and Paid Family and Medical Leave.

With a deep belief in the importance of rural electoral engagement, Madeline moved to Utah in 2018 to help found the Rural Utah Project, bringing their fundraising and communications programs online. The organization went on to flip traditionally rural districts, impacting elections from County Commission to the U.S. Presidency — running a 2020 organic digital and earned media program with the advertising equivalency of $11.1M.

Since, Madeline has continued her work as a narrative strategist, driving outcomes for non-profits, labor unions, and candidates for office — both at the local and federal level. Her notable projects include John Fetterman for US Senate, National Nurses United, the Fight for $15 Campaign, Planned Parenthood, and the Rural Climate Partnership.

Madeline lives in Boulder, Utah — a town of 250 people — where she continues to advocate for campaigns and candidates who are curious and eager to engage with people who call rural America home.

Molly Gurney is a political organizer, community facilitator, visual storyteller, and Communications Strategist at Western Desk.

For over 10 years, Molly has honed her skills as a facilitator, leading conversations on climate and racial injustice with the Council on the Uncertain Human Future. After earning her Master's Degree in International Development and Social Change, she dove headfirst into the climate justice and affordable housing advocacy spaces, developing fundraising and communications strategies for candidates and nonprofits in Massachusetts, Washington and Utah. In 2022, she was the Campaign Manager for Davina Smith, the first Diné (Navajo) woman to run for Utah State House of Representatives. Her goal is to generate structural change via deep relationship building at the local level, even in the most polarizing landscapes.

Molly also weaves her visual art practice into political organizing work. She’s excited to expand Western Desk’s capacity for visual storytelling work through her experience in community mapping, zines, public art, caricatures, illustration, graphic design and video. ⁣She believes that art inspires action through connecting individualized stories to collective struggles for justice.

Rooted in her upbringing in a small town in Vermont, Molly's commitment to place runs deep in her veins. She's grounded by her connection to community and dedicated to creating a better future for all.
